Thumb Print Wines
Description
Bob and Lyn Christian entered the wine industry in 1995 when they purchased a vineyard in Mudgee, known as ‘Bungaroo’. It was well established with Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon grape. They planted Shiraz in their first year and added Vermentino and Savagnin Blanc later in 2008.
Grapes were harvested and sold under contract for the first 5 years. Wine production began in 2001 with a wine made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. It was a wonderful red wine! Bob gave it the ‘thumbs up’ and his thumb print became the label.
In 2002 production expanded to include Chardonnay and in 2005 the first Shiraz was harvested. ThumbPrint Wines Mudgee, was established the same year with a Cellar Door opening at the vineyard residence.
In 2012 the first Vermentino and Savagnin Blanc grapes were harvested together. It was a delicious blend! The decision was made to take this special wine to a secondary fermentation in the bottle producing a wonderful and unique Vintage Sparkling wine!
A new ThumbPrint label was needed for this Sparkling! Ricci Royal, Lyn and Bob’s famous, third generation, homebred racehorse, had just won his first race at Canterbury Racecourse. It was obvious that his image should begin a new label for the sparkling wines. Thumbprint Wines now also produce a Vintage Sparkling Chardonnay and Shiraz.
