The Maldon Hospital was established in August 1859 as a small wooden structure on High Street to serve the local gold-rush community. It admitted its first patient on August 21, 1859. Due to growing needs, the hospital relocated to its current site on Adair and Chapel Streets, where a permanent brick foundation was laid in 1860. It continues to be a hospital for the area and town for over 160yrs. Maldon was classfied as Australia's first notable town by the National Trust in 1966.
